At the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, Chinese Premier Li Qiang highlighted the importance of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and said that the results were achieved thanks to the efforts of both sides, cultivating strategic trust and mutual assistance. The meeting agreed that 2024 would be the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
ASEAN-China recorded a record two-way trade turnover of US$722 billion. China has been ASEAN's largest trading partner continuously for the past 14 years.
On that basis, the two sides agreed to continue promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation, stabilizing supply chains. Support market access, expand cooperation in digital transformation, digital economy, climate change response, energy transition, green and sustainable development...
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that ASEAN and China should work closely together to make the region a focal point of economic growth.
The parties need to take advantage of geographical proximity, improve the quality of economic, trade and investment cooperation, maintain smooth trade, promote connectivity, ensure production and supply chains, digital economy cooperation, green economy...
In particular, the head of the Vietnamese Government proposed China to expand the market, raise the quota of goods in transit and accelerate the opening of agricultural and aquatic products and fruits of ASEAN countries, transshipment through Vietnam, and penetration into the Chinese market.
