ASEAN and China convened the Third Round of the ASEAN–China FTA (ACFTA) 3.0 Upgrade Negotiations on 24 – 27 June 2023 in Kunming, China. About 370 officials from relevant authorities of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, attended the negotiations.
China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister Wang Shouwen attended the Opening Ceremony on 25 June 2023. During his Opening Remarks, Vice Minister Wang Shouwen emphasised the importance of the ASEAN-China FTA to the growth of ASEAN-China economic relations and instructed negotiators to exert utmost efforts and actively engage in negotiations to strengthen ASEAN-China economic relations with shared future as instructed by the Leaders.
In November 2022, China and ASEAN jointly announced the official launch of the negotiations. The two sides agreed that the negotiations will cover the fields including trade in goods, investment, and digital and green economy, so as to build a more inclusive, modern, comprehensive, and mutually beneficial China-ASEAN FTA.
