Vietnam – ASEAN trade reaches USD 45.4 billion in first half of 2025

In the first half of 2025, trade turnover between Vietnam and ASEAN reached USD 45.4 billion, accounting for 10.5% of Vietnam’s total international trade. During the first six months of 2025, Vietnam’s total trade with ASEAN reached USD 45.4 billion, making up around 10.5% of the country’s global trade value, according to the socio-economic report released by the General Statistics Office on July 5.

Vietnam’s total trade with its six largest partners (the US, China, EU, ASEAN, South Korea, and Japan) amounted to approximately USD 341 billion, accounting for 78% of its total trade in the first half of the year.

In terms of exports, the US remained Vietnam’s largest market with USD 70.9 billion (up 28.2% YoY), followed by China at USD 29.1 billion (up 4.2%), the EU at USD 27.3 billion (up 10%), and ASEAN at USD 18.9 billion (up 4.2%). Exports to South Korea and Japan stood at USD 13.7 billion (up 11.9%) and USD 12.8 billion (up 11.8%), respectively.

On the import side, China led with USD 84.7 billion (up 26.4%), followed by South Korea at USD 28.4 billion (up 5.5%), and ASEAN at USD 26.5 billion (up 16.8%). Imports from Japan reached USD 11.6 billion (up 8%), from the US USD 8.9 billion (up 22.3%), and from the EU USD 8.4 billion (up 6.5%).

Vietnam’s total trade turnover in the first half of 2025 reached USD 432.03 billion, up 16.1% year-on-year, with exports at USD 219.83 billion and imports at USD 212.2 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 7.63 billion.
