Highest export value to the EU market in the first 6 months of 2021 belonged to the following products: phones and components, computers, electronic products, shoes of all kinds, machinery and equipment spare parts, textiles,
and iron and steel of all kinds. Among the above-mentioned products, phones and their components observed a sharp decrease, while the remaining products grew remarkably, especially iron and steel (a surge of 620% over the same period in 2020). As such, Viet Nam's iron and steel export proportion increased sharply from 0.51% (in the first half of 2020) to 3.09% (in the first half of 2021).
Viet Nam's imports from the EU market in June 2021 reached nearly USD 1.06 billion, down 1.06% compared to May 2021 but up 18.02% compared to May 2021. In the first half of 2021, Viet Nam's accumulated imports from the EU reached 5.99 billion USD, up 20.47% over the same period in 2020, equaling 3.76% of the total country's imports, but being narrowed compared to the propotion of the first half of 2020 (4.26%).
Major imported products from the EU in the first 6 months of 2021 include: machinery and equipment, spare parts, pharmaceutical products, chemical products, animal feeds, raw materials for textiles.
In June 2021, a number of imported products from the EU increased significantly compared to May 2021 and June 2020 such as computers, electronic products, chemicals, milk and dairy products, and other common metals.
