Document: ASEAN Roadmap on Digital Trade Standards
Time: 3/2025
Author: The Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) Initiative
Digital transformation is a key priority for ASEAN in promoting economic development and regional integration. A fundamental element of this process is the harmonisation of digital trade standards, which facilitates the connectivity of different digital ecosystems across ASEAN Member States, thereby creating a compatible digital environment, reducing trade barriers, and expanding access to regional and global markets for businesses and consumers. The ASEAN Roadmap on Digital Trade Standards was developed by the Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) Initiative to provide an assessment of the current state of standards adoption among Member States and to put forward recommendations to advance digital transformation through harmonised standards across four main areas: digital trade logistics and transactions, digital transactions, digital trust, and cooperation on emerging topics. The Roadmap also sets out recommendations on policy coordination, capacity-building, and digital infrastructure development to make the ASEAN digital economy more integrated and sustainable. (The document was finalised and submitted for endorsement at the levels of the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) and the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) in May 2025.)
