On September 9, 2022, the EU-ASEAN Business Council published the Report on Reviewing and upgrading the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA). 12 years after the ATIGA Agreement was signed, ASEAN has committed to reviewing and upgrading the Agreement. When announcing the launch of official negotiations on the upgrade, ASEAN Economic Ministers emphasized the necessity of this upgrade for ASEAN economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the upgrade aims to ensure that ASEAN remains relevant, modern and more responsive to regional and global developments.
