According to the agreed work plan, the 10th Meeting of the AITIGA JC took place from 12 to 14 August 2025 in New Delhi, India to continue discussions on the negotiation process for reviewing this agreement. The JC discussed the progress report to be submitted to ASEAN – India Economic Ministers’ Consultation, which is expected to take place in September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The AITIGA JC 10 is attended by representatives from the 10 ASEAN member countries and India. At the same time, meetings of the Sub-Committees on National Treatment and Market Access, Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, Standards, Technical Regulations and Conformity Assessment Procedures, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Legal and Institutional Issues, Trade Remedies was also conducted in New Delhi, India from 10 to 14 August.
The ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) is part of the Framework Agreement between ASEAN and India on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation, which was signed on 13 August 2009 and entered into force on 1 January 2010. At the 19th ASEAN-India Economic Ministers' Consultation held on 16 September 2022 in Cambodia, the ASEAN Economic Ministers and India adopted the Scoping Paper for the AITIGA review and agreed to activate the AITIGA Joint Committee (JC) to carry out the process, in order to address implementation issues as well as review the AITIGA towards a more effective, simpler, user-friendly agreement that is more trade facilitative for businesses and is relevant to current global trade practices. 8 sub-committees have been established under the AITIGA Joint Committee to conduct negotiations on various areas related to the Agreement. Currently, India and ASEAN are aiming to substantially conclude the AITIGA review in 2025.
