Philippines agrees to sign rice trade cooperation, support Vietnam to remove IUU yellow card

On the morning of September 7, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. on the occasion of attending the 9rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Delighted by the strong momentum of Vietnam-Philippines relations in all fields, the two leaders affirmed the importance of the Vietnam-Philippines strategic partnership for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

The two leaders agreed to continue coordinating and supporting each other in regional and international issues of mutual interest. At the same time, further promote the connectivity and mutual complementarity of the two economies.

The focus is to promote potential cooperation areas such as agriculture, aquaculture, oil and gas...; and to research to expand cooperation in new fields such as digital economy, circular economy, green economy, innovation...

The two leaders supported promoting cooperation in the field of human resource and labor training to support the development of the knowledge economy of the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to soon exchange and sign an intergovernmental agreement on rice trade cooperation to jointly ensure food security goals in the face of complicated fluctuations in the global food supply chain over the past time.

Notably, the two sides exchanged ideas on promoting cooperation and close coordination on maritime issues. The Philippine President affirmed that he would continue to treat the detained fishermen humanely in the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership, as well as support Vietnam's efforts in removing the European Commission's IUU yellow card.
