The 30th Meeting of the Committee on Trade in Goods (CTG) of the ASEAN – Australia – New Zealand Free Trade Area Agreement (AANZFTA) took place from June 24 to 25, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting focused on discussing the implementation of the Trade in Goods Chapter of the Agreement and implementing the built-in agenda following the entry into force of the Second Protocol to amend the AANZFTA on April 21, 2025. The Viet Nam delegation, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance, attended the meeting.
The Meeting noted the key outcomes as followings:
(i) Implementation of the Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation (CPTF) Chapter: The meeting discussed and agreed to conduct domestic consultations on methods to monitor the implementation of the CPTF Chapter.
(ii) Transposition of Tariff Reduction Schedule (TRS): The Meeting noted that Parties have completed the transpostion of the TRS from HS 2017 to HS 2022.
(iii) Addressing Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs): The Meeting agreed to hold a special Session in November 2025 to discuss the implementation of NTM-related regulations and proposals for priority sectors to develop sectoral initiatives.
(iv) Monitoring Utilization of AANZFTA Preferences: The CTG Committee explored the possibility of establishing a mechanism to monitor the utilization rate of tariff preferences under the AANZFTA framework.
(v) AANZFTA Implementation Support Program (AISP): The CTG Committee encouraged Parties to fully utilize the AISP to support the implementation of the Second Protocol and advance the committee’s agenda.
During the meeting, Viet Nam continued to demonstrate its active and responsible role in implementing the Trade in Goods Chapter of the AANZFTA. Viet Nam also supported the proposal to organize a special session in November 2025 to focus on discussing NTM-related issues, contributing to trade facilitation in the region.
The Meeting concluded in an open and constructive spirit, with the aim of reporting key outcomes at the AANZFTA Joint Committee Meeting held concurrently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
