From 07 to 09 July 2025, in Da Nang city, Department of Vietnam Customs hosted the 35th Meeting of the Working Group on Legal and Regulatory Matters for the ASEAN Single Window. The meeting brought together representatives of ASEAN member states' Customs and the ASEAN Secretariat.
The discussion focused on issues related to the legal framework for the expansion of ASEAN Single Window with their partners including Japan, China, the United States, South Korea and Hong Kong (China). ASEAN delegates also discussed the development orientation of the new generation ASEAN Single Window and the implementation plan in the coming time.
In her opening remarks, the representative of Vietnamese Customs emphasized the important role of regional cooperation in developing the legal framework for the ASEAN Single Window, and acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the Working Group in harmonizing laws, addressing regulatory gaps and discussing new challenges that member countries need to coordinate to resolve.
The implementation of exchanging electronic Certificates of Origin (C/O) among ASEAN member states under the ASEAN Single Window has helped reduce paperwork, shorten customs clearance time and improve trade efficiency in the region. Recognizing this success, ASEAN countries are considering proposals from Japan, China, the United States, South Korea and Hong Kong (China) on expanding the exchange of electronic Certificates of Origin with these partners.
