Trade between ASEAN and China reached a new record of approximately USD 694 billion in the first eight months of 2025, representing a 9.7% year-on-year increase, according to data released by China’s General Administration of Customs.
This result reaffirms that ASEAN and China have remained each other’s largest trading partners for five consecutive years. The agricultural sector continues to play a key role in bilateral growth, with ASEAN maintaining its position as China’s top agricultural trade partner for the eighth consecutive year.
ASEAN remains China’s primary source of fruits, edible oils, and cassava, while China’s exports of down, feathers, and animal feed to ASEAN markets recorded double-digit growth.
Manufactured goods continued to drive overall expansion, accounting for over 90% of total bilateral trade. Exports of machine tools from China to ASEAN surged 56.1%, and automobile parts rose 22%; meanwhile, imports of computer components from ASEAN increased 47.4%.
Looking ahead, economic integration between the two sides is expected to progress further through the signing and implementation of the upgraded ASEAN–China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA 3.0), which aims to expand cooperation, strengthen regional supply chains, and enhance deeper economic connectivity and sustainability.
