It is important to note, from the outset, that the VNTR is not being developed, nor will it operate, in relative isolation. There are already other ‘competing’ trade portals, repositories, and trade information websites: i) in Vietnam; ii) within the ASEAN region; and iii) those with a global remit. Some of these are free to access, provided as a public good, and typically funded and operated by a government agency or a multilateral body. Others are provided by various private sector actors and charge a fee for access. In this regard, the VNTR has benefitted from lessons learned – from other trade repositories in Viet Nam, the ASEAN region and internationally.

ASEAN TRADE REPOROSTOY (ATR)

The ASEAN Trade Repository (ATR) provides a single point of access to all the trade-related information of ASEAN Member States. The trade-related information accessible through the ATR is organised on the basis of nine ‘topics’ in line with Article 13 of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA). The nine ‘topics’ are the following:
